Our hamster has been lost for almost 24 hours. We've hunted high and low today with no success. Madelyn has set a tiny bowl of hamster food in the hallway, and taped the tiny rodent water bottle to the wall about three inches from the floor, just in case he passes by and happens to be hungry or thirsty.
We have two cats in this house. What do you think this hamster's chances of survival are? Does anyone have any suggestions for luring pet rodents out of hiding?

No hints. But our hamster was lost for two weeks once. We spotted our cat carrying him in her mouth. He was still alive and seemed fine, but we think he got too cold outside because he passed on a few weeks after that. Also lost a hamster in the heat ducts for awhile, fortunately during summer. :)
how bout peanut butter in a dish? it has a strong scent and animals usually love it.
Here kitty kitty - I would go out after everyone is sleeping - put the cats up - and look inside shoes - get down on your belly and look for holes maybe where a pipe goes into the wall - good luck - my gerbil got out one time when I was at school and our maid - yelled - and called my mom to say there was a rat in the house - poor lady - what a fright!
We lost a hamster for two days. I stayed up late one night past 1:00AM and listened for it. It came out and I spotted it and grabbed him. The food and water is a good Idea but if you can put his cage on the floor with the door open and food in the cage. I have heard you can trap the hamster buy building a staircase out of books that leads to a bucket that has been lined with a soft towel. Put food on the books and strong smelling food in the bucket, such as a piece of apple or something. The hamster should fall/jump into the bucket and not be able to get out. good luck-

I actually had a little devotion book when i was a child called "The Peanut Butter Hamster," because one of the devotionals was about a family who used peanut butter to lure a missing hamster out of its hiding place. Hope it (or something) works.
I didn't know you had a hamster.
