I've got an odd book about a kangaroo who adopts a baby bird, because it falls out of its nest, and then the mother bird thinks it will be better off with the kangaroo. I can't decide if it's supposed to be about adoption or if it's just an odd story. Either way, it doesn't help to make sense of anything I can think of. The world is a mysterious place for all of us at times.
Shalimar, I have that same book- "Blessing From Above", I think it is. It is a funny little story, but I definitely think it is about adoption, how families may not look like they "match"... hence the mother kangaroo with the baby bird. Also, I think it is about adoption in that the mother bird sees that her nest is too full, thus she is happy to have a different, loving home for her child. What do you think? I've read it to Gwen many times, and hope that it is a positive adoption message. There are certainly better adoption books, but this one is not bad. That's my take! :-)
I can almost picture Gwen's face as she is asking this qustion to Caleb, it makes me want to hug her and let her know that I am so glad she has been a Liptak from long before she was created because God had planned it that way, another reason to be thankful for... Love you Gwenie!
We adopted our youngest child, Gwen, from the Sichuan province in China in 2005, making our family SIX. In 2007, we were given the opportunity to move to Shanghai, where we lived for just a few weeks shy of five years. Now we are back in the Chicago area and readjusting to life in the US!
