These two young female probiscous monkeys fought over the little baby back and forth. One would snatch him from the arms of the other and run off, only to be pursued by the first and have the helpless babe be snatched back. Madelyn and Gwen were both very concerned by this behavior... finally the rightful mother intervened and took her child.
As we arrived at the wildlife park late morning, we were quite warm during our whole visit. Scott bought us popsicles from a little cafe at one point... but they were lychee flavored which was disappointing in everything but its coldness. I tried to like it, I really did. I even explained to Seth that since it was cold and sweet, there was no reason we shouldn't like it. But my explanations were to no avail, even for myself. Fortunately, at the exit of the zoo, there was a Nestle (Jim Glaser should be proud!) freezer case with familiar frozen chocolate confections, and we were happy to purchase those.
A look of wonder at the elephants!
Orang Utans (the way it would be said in Malay) are native to Borneo. Orang Utan means jungle man in Malay, and these creatures sure do look like little old men. We were able to go to a sanctuary for young orphaned orangutans later in the week where we got much more familiar with the "jungle men", but we sure enjoyed our visit with them at the wild animal park. This mama and her little one were so cute! Look how she is holding him up by her thumb!
